I am trained and specialize in the most effective and successful form of marriage and couples therapy called Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT). Through a course of EFT I can help you identify patterns of interaction that keep you "stuck" and disconnected from your partner, and teach you new ways to communicate and interact that bring safe, loving, secure, intimate connection with your partner. These "stuck" patterns that lead to disconnection are at the heart of most conflicts. The recommended course of therapy is 8-20 sessions.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples is the leading form of effective marital therapy treatments. EFT is a structured approach to couples therapy. There is a substantial body of research outlining the effectiveness of EFT. Research studies find that 70-75% of couples move from marital distress to recovery and approximately 90% show significant improvements. There is also
research on the change process and predictors of success. EFT is based on a clear, explicit attachment conceptualization of marital distress and adult love. These conceptualizations are supported by empirical research on the nature
of marital distress and adult attachment. EFT is collaborative and respectful of clients. Change strategies and interventions are specific and clear, and key moves and moments in the change process have been mapped into nine steps and three stages of
The goals of EFT are to:
1) expand and re-organize key emotional responses;
2) create a shift in partner’s interactional positions and initiate new cycles of interaction; and
3) foster the creation of a secure bond between partners.
